Calvin's Birth Story

Well I'm finally getting around to posting more than just pictures. Calvin is doing wonderful. He is a very hungry baby and likes to eat and play all night long, but we are adjusting slowly and enjoying our first few days with him. He hasn't been pooping as much as he should be so I've been supplementing with formula after breastfeeding. We went to the hospital for a weight check yesterday and he weighed 7 lbs 13 oz, which the pediatrician said was great. I've been wanting to post about his whole birth story so here it goes...

I woke up Tuesday morning around 3am with cramps but that wasn't really anything new so I didn't think much of it. Around 5:30 I decided to hop in the shower to see if that would relax me and stop the cramping. That's when the contractions started, mostly in my back. I started timing them and they were very consistently 5 minutes apart. I woke up Korey and let him know that I thought I might be in labor, so we started getting things together. By around 7 they were 2-3 minutes apart and pretty unbearable. We got to hospital around 9:30 and they checked me and said I was 4 cm already! I couldn't believe it, since I was still closed at my appointment on Friday. Everything seemed to fly by after that... After about 4 hours of back labor I gave in and got the epidural. I apparently wasn't cooperating very well because it took 3 tries to get the catheter in. 30 minutes later I was still feeling the contractions so the anesthesiologist came back to readjust things (that wasn't fun at all). Finally I was able to rest and by around 4:00 I was 9 1/2 cm. I pushed for about 2 hours and Calvin was born at 5:54pm. We were all so shocked when Korey said "It's a BOY" and even more shocked when they said he weighed 8 lbs 7 oz!! He spent the next day up in NICU for some breathing issues (they just wanted to observe him since he was breathing a little too fast), but we got to spend the day up there with him and he came down Wednesday evening around 6pm just in time for the family visitors. Went home Thursday night and have been hanging out since then enjoying our little man!
