Happy 2nd Birthday Aiden!

We love you!

Calvin - 4 months

I can't believe you are 4 months old Mr. Calvin! Here are some things Mommy and Daddy would like to remember about this time:
-Mommy calls you "booger" and Daddy calls you "Cal-boy".
-You love taking a bath before bed at night.
-EVERYTHING goes into your mouth right now.
-You like to take out your pacifier and examine it, then turn it around and gnaw on it.
-You started teething a couple of weeks ago, you have one tooth almost broken through on the top (and you were not happy about the experience).
-You don't hold still! You hate being cradled and can't even lay still while nursing... You kick and wiggle and try to look around at everything.
-Everyone comments on how strong you are. You stand straight up and lock your legs when someone holds onto your fingers, and you will lift your whole upper body up when you want out of your carseat or swing (we say you are going to have a baby 6-pack, it looks like you are doing sit ups).
-You get SO MAD when we take your bottle away. You will scream until you find your hand or thumb to suck on. (Mommy says you are going to have a temper...)
-You fight Mommy when she tries to get you dressed but you think it is a game and its funny.
-You can roll across the floor when we put you down, back to belly to back to belly...
Happy 4 months Calvin! They've been fun and we love watching you
discover things and grow everyday.

Calvin had an awesome first Christmas. We had 8 family Christmas's to attend this year and enjoyed sharing Calvin with everyone. He got a lot of great toys, outfits, and books (lots of books!). We spent the night at my parents house and woke up Christmas morning with my family. Everyone got an "ugly Christmas sweater" from Korey and I. (We've been collecting them from Goodwill the past few weeks). It was a good first Christmas and I am sad it is over. Looking forward to a brand new year with lots of changes ahead...

Graduated!

I graduated from Nursing School on December 19th! It was a great day and I am excited to start my new career as an RN. Now I just have to find a job... : )

3 month photoshoot

Here are some pictures from Calvin's photoshoot with Cindy Wagner in Batesville. She is putting together a portfolio and offered to take Calvin's pictures for free (and then we can order favorites). She is doing a newborn, 3 month, 6 month, 9 month, and 12 month shoot. Here are some of her favorites from 3 months!

Passed out in my carseat!

Calvin is now 3 months old. He is rolling over both ways and loves laying on his back to play with his toys. He is so strong, if we put him on his belly he will try so hard to scoot himself across the blanket. He is a very happy, easygoing little boy. Last week we heard him laugh for the first time and got it on video. We are enjoying him so much! We put up our Christmas tree and are getting ready for our first Christmas with him!

11 weeks

Calvin started sleeping through the night last week! I got a book called 90-Minute Sleep Program and started to put him on a schedule during the day, putting him down for a nap every 90 minutes. Well just a couple days later, he slept through the night! He actually went to bed at 8pm one night and I had to wake him up at 7am because we had a pediatrician appointment! I was totally freaked out and I thought something was wrong with him even after he was awake and seemed fine. But the pediatrician said everything was fine and sure enough the next night he slept 8 hours and has been been sleeping 8+ pretty much every night since! I recommended the book to a friend who was amazed when her son started sleeping through the night too! It's by Polly Moore, I got mine off of Amazon for really cheap.

Calvin's 2 month check up went well. His new pediatrician is great and she was amazed at how strong Calvin is. He lifts himself up when you grab onto his hands and he stands up tall and bounces himself up and down when you hold him on your lap. The kid just doesn't sit still! He hates being cradled unless he's eating. At 10 weeks old exactly, he weighed 13 pounds and was 22 inches long. He's been eating great and we've finally gotten a hold of breastfeeding (yay!!).

Happy Halloween!

Our little pumpkin

I asked Korey to put on an orange shirt since we were going to
take pictures... He came downstairs in this. Very festive.

Calvin the Octopus

Calvin and Aiden the Lion
Calvin had a great first Halloween! Korey said he wanted Cal to be an octopus like a month ago and then I found this costume idea in a magazine so we made it. He looked so cute. He wasn't a fan of getting in and out of his carseat as we made our rounds so after one meltdown we called it a night. Aiden was an adorable little lion. I couldn't get a picture of his face because he was running around like a crazy man. : ) He said "ROAR!" all night though.

9 weeks + Family Updates

Calvin is 9 weeks old. He has decided that he would rather suck on the first two fingers of his hand than his pacifier. He sucks on them all day long. So we're looking forward to breaking that habit someday. : ) He is sleeping great, consistently 4.5 hours at a time throughout the night. He sees his new pediatrician next Tuesday, I have no idea how much he weighs now so it'll be fun to see how much he's grown.

I finished my management clinicals and all of my online classes last week. Now I just have 4 weeks of capstone and then I graduate on December 19th. I have been job searching like crazy but even nurses are getting hit by the economy... It's hard to find a hospital that is looking for new grads and a lot of them are on hiring freezes all together. I was so disappointed to find out that I wasn't being offered a position where I work now as a Student Nurse. I absolutely love the unit I work on and the people I work with. I had Calvin and started school the week my unit director sent out an email asking the December grad students about their interest in staying on the unit. (There are 3 of us). So I didn't see the email until a couple of weeks later and when I replied she said she had given my spot away. I was so upset (and a little angry she didn't at least try to call and follow up with me... she knew I had just had a baby - I had him ON the unit). But anyway what's done is done and it was a miscommunication. I'm hoping something will open up before graduation. Until then I've applied for a couple other positions around Indy and keeping an eye out for jobs closer to home (so far no luck).

Some side notes, Katie's volleyball team is going to Regionals tomorrow! She won homecoming queen a couple weeks ago and her boyfriend, Connor won king. Connor is the quaterback for Batesville and we all love watching him play every Friday. Korey helps coach the varsity team (he coached 7th grade this year as well). So far Batesville is undefeated and we're hoping they go all the way to State!

Calvin rolls over...

Calvin rolled over this week! He goes from his belly to his back. We got a really cute video of him doing it by himself for the first time. Wait to go Calvin!

7 weeks

Calvin is 7 weeks old. This week has been tough, he has been crying every evening for 2-3 hours and is inconsolable. Then he passes out and sleeps through the night like nothing was wrong... I am still trying to breastfeed but we supplement with pumped milk/formula. Breastfeeding has been a nightmare. I have had mastitis, clogged ducts, blisters, and now thrush which has been causing pain that radiates into my back after feedings and lasts for a couple hours. I have met with a lactation consultant and we're treating the thrush but its not helping yet. Mostly I am pumping and giving him bottles because feeding him always hurts so bad. Breastfeeding is not easy but I am so determined to master it without pain... I have researched everything under the book so hopefully we will overcome the issues. (By the way if you are pregnant and interested in breastfeeding kellymom.com is the BEST website ever!)

Back to Calvin, he is smiling and sleeping well through the night, he wakes up a couple times to eat but always go right back to sleep. He loves staring at us and follows us with his eyes when we walk around the room. I love that I can take him out now and show him off to everyone! I can't believe he's almost 2 months old...

My memory card in my camera isn't working so I haven't gotten pictures lately. We did get our pictures back from his newborn shoot and they are gorgeous. I will post some of my favorites soon.

Kisses from Daddy

Go Colts!

Little monkey

Fuzzy hair! This is right after his bath. His hair
gets really fuzzy and cute, I love it.

Calvin started smiling this week! He gave us a big beautiful smile one morning when he woke up and has been flashing us smiles ever since. He loves when we give him kisses. He opens his mouth and gets excited when mommy and daddy "steal kisses" from him. We are starting to get used to his routine and what cries mean what. He gets fussy at nighttime between 6-10 and then passes out and sleeps good for us at night. He has had a couple 5 hour stretches at night but usually he is up every 3-4 hours. He likes his swing and the other day was cooing at the Winnie the Pooh mobile. His hair is starting to thin out in places and lighten up and his eyes are turning more blue. He weighs 11 pounds 11 ounces ... growing little boy!

Family Pics

Thanks to my cousin Curt for these beautiful family photos! My grandma turned 80 this weekend and we threw her a surprise party - she had NO idea her entire family was coming to Batesville to surprise her. It was a great weekend and we loved seeing everyone.
