End of 14 weeks

Well week 14 is wrapping up and I'm just now getting around to posting about it. Sorry! Pretty uneventful overall. I'm feeling great and keeping busy. Korey and I went to Babies R Us on Wednesday to look around and Korey picked out a stroller and play yard. We thought it would be more overwhelming but it was fun. We can't believe our next appointment is next week already. I have two exams and a couple papers due by Friday so things are going to be hectic.

Korey and I are going to Batesville this weekend to relax and see Aiden. He is 14 months old today and so much fun. He's walking all over the place (took his first steps on his first birthday!) and is amazed by everything. He acts so surprised whenever you walk into a room or show him something new. He can do the signs for "more" and "drink" and gets a kick out of us teaching him new signs. I'm excited to do fun things with him this summer, he is the happiest little guy in the world.

I've been waiting to here about news regarding a Summer program IUPUI is offering my nursing class. Since they do not have enough preceptors to accomodate our large class (85 students) in the Fall (which is supposed to be my 8th and last semester), they are offering 20 of us the opportunity to take summer classes and graduate in August instead of in December. However, they are making their choice based on GPA and I have no idea where my 3.3 falls in ranking. So I applied and will hopefully know in the next week or so if I will be graduating in August or December. August would obviously be ideal, but if I don't get it then we'll go back to Plan A. : )

13 weeks

At 13 weeks the baby is the size of a peach. Fingerprints have formed on his tiny fingertips, his veins and organs are clearly visible through his skin, and his body is starting to catch up with his head, which is about 1/3 the size of his body now.

This Monday marked week 13. I can't believe it's been 7 weeks since we found out about the little one. Last week Korey and I went to our 12 week appointment. We got to the hear the heartbeat and meet the doctor that will be seeing me until this little one makes his/her appearance. We both liked him, and thought it was funny that the rumor I heard about him looking like Bill Murray was very true. We talked about genetic testing (which we've opted against), how I'm feeling (a little better... but still TIRED), and things like my cat, who I am supposed to avoid as much as possible (not possible! she follows me everywhere is always right on top of me). The heartbeat was in the 170's and was so cool to hear. We scheduled our 16 week appointment and will know then when our next ultrasound will be (around 20 weeks). We are not finding out the sex of the baby, despite our families begging us to! Sorry guys, you'll have to wait until August. :P Lots of greens and yellows until then!

Korey and I had a great Valentine's weekend. Korey made me a delicious dinner on Friday (one of his dad's recipes) and got the baby and I each a Valentine's Day card. We went shopping with my mom on Saturday and then stayed home and watched a movie. He also endured my first pregnancy craving at 9:30 Saturday night. I absoultely had to have a turkey sandwich. With colby cheese and potato chips on it. We made it to Meijer before they closed and I went to bed happy and full! :)

11 weeks

Well we survived the crazy snowstorm last week and I even made it to all my classes. We headed home on Sunday to watch the Superbowl with my family. We had fun, despite the terrible game. At least the commercials were good. I am really starting to grow out of my clothes. I resorted to rubberbanding my jeans last week, which is actually working out pretty well! Though most of the time sweat pants and sweatshirts are my wardrobe. I'm a little anxious to get out of the "looking like I've had too many cheeseburgers" phase. : ) The news is getting out slowly and most everyone seems to be excited. Korey is protective... He makes sure I'm eating well and taking my vitamins. It's good to have him reminding me of things since my brain seems to be a little off lately. I will try to post the ultrasound picture from week 9 soon.

Ultrasound

We had our first ultrasound last Wednesday. The baby was dancing around and its heartbeat was strong and fast. I measured 8 weeks 5 days, which was close enough to the previous estimation, so my due date is still August 24th. Today starts week 10. I am feeling better. My jeans are getting a little tight, but no belly. Just some extra pounds. :) We told our families this weekend and feel relieved that the news is out. I really appreciate the support from everyone. I think everyone is excited. At my next appointment, Korey and I will be able to hear the heartbeat from the outside of my belly which is exciting. 2 weeks away!

Lab Work and Back to School

Today I had my second blood draw for my hormone level comparison. My hgh levels on Monday were 65,000 which were normal levels for someone 6-7 weeks. My progesterone level was 18, which was really good as well. Since I am a full-time student working very few hours a week, I am hoping to get approved for a program called Hoosier Healthwise that will cover what my primary insurance doesn't. I find out in a few weeks. That will help a lot and I can relax a little bit about finances right now and focus on all the other expenses heading my way. My prenatal vitamins alone cost me $38 for a 1 month supply (after insurance).

I started school on Monday. I'm looking forward to my Community/Public Health nursing experiences this semester, I think I will enjoy being outside of the hospital setting. I really enjoy the education side of healthcare. Korey started at IUPUI this week and is enjoying his Construction Engineering Management classes. We're both getting back into school mode.

First Trimester Fun

So time has been flying by and I am starting to get things in order as far as insurance and doctors go. I chose a doctor at Community North and made my first couple appointments. As of now, Korey and I are still the only ones who know about the baby. Finding the right moment to break the news to the parents is proving more difficult than I thought... But I'm not in a rush, as I am only about 8 weeks along. I go in for bloodwork next week so they can check my hormone levels and then our first ultrasound is the Wednesday after that. I think I will be about 9 1/2 weeks, so we'll see if they agree. I'll meet with the doctor the following day for history/physical and all that fun stuff. It was weird, the secretary making my appointment was the first person to say "Congratulations." It felt good to hear, as I have been pretty stressed about the whole situation. Everyday is different, some good, some a little scarier. Korey is supportive but also stressed.

I have physically felt pretty good the last couple weeks. Some nausea... I am having weird aversions to foods I usually like. The thought of my favorite restaurant, Acapulco's, makes me sick to my stomach. Also: green peppers (vegetables in general actually), guacamole (which I usually love!), and sausage. Kate made it the other morning and I almost left the house it smelled so bad. But no actual throwing up, which I'm more than thankful for.

I start my 7th semester of nursing school on Monday. Should be a fairly easy semester compared the last couple, but I've enjoyed sleeping in so much these last few weeks, it's going to be hard going back to getting up most mornings at 5:30. (But I guess I should get used to that, huh!) I have been sooo tired lately, so I'm expecting lots of daily naps. : )
